Studio Diary #6

wrapping up the recording sessions today.   very very excited.   i've spent a lot of work on this record and sifted though countless demos and rejected a lot of songs that didn't fit where i was coming from...

Studio Diary #5: ALBUM TITLE ANNOUNCED!

slept only about 3 hours since the last time i was in the studio and then spent most of the day in the studio today trying to finish up some back ground vocals and lay down tracks for two new songs.   i've seriously written SO many songs on my guitar and it's hard to pick and choose what will go on the record.     i've got it narrowed down to 11 tracks which i think are the final tracklisting but honestly, it's just too soon to tell.

what i can do right now is confirm the record's title as "NO FAIRYTALE."      the release date is supposed to be late December.   updates will come as an official release date is narrowed in on.

as of now, i'm taking the rest of the night off...

Studio Diary #4

In the studio all day today.   Havin a very good time with this record.    Playing guitar and working with the music.  It's sooo cool to see these songs take life......

"BELIEVE" re-release includes 3 new songs!

Today the "Believe" ep makes full record status with the inclusion of this year's 3 new holiday tracks.   "If You Loved Me" has been out for a few weeks and can be heard over there on soundcloud and soundclick.  

Allison Grey and I teamed up again to do "Where Are You Christmas" from the Grinch soundtrack.  Always great to sing with her.

Also included this year is a cover of Mariah Carey's "Oh Santa."   Far more upbeat than the other two songs, this one was just pure fun to record.

A nice break from working on the new record.  And a great way to usher in the holiday season.   The "Believe" project will continue again next year with a new song or 2 (or 3 - WOW) added each year.   So have a safe and fun holiday!   It's back to the studio for me!

Studio Dairy #3

i've finally entered the studio with this album.   i have sooo many songs that i've written in a short period of time for this record.   it's hard to let go of the acoustic versions of them.  the stripped down baby versions of the songs....   to dress them up in whatever fashion it turns out to be.   i finished the first of them this evening.   vodka in hand of course, as i like to do when i'm serious about making music....

i guess after the experimentation of the last record and the remix insanity of 'remixxit mmxiv' i wanted to strip the songs down and just make for real music that meant something TO ME.

the last time i was in this head space was when i created 'free before i die.'   but i'm not trying to recreate.   this record i can already feel is different.  it has heart and soul which isn't different then 'free before i die.' but it wants to be heard.   it wants to wash down with a bit of humor (is that sarcasm?).   it's too early to really tell but i'm having fun with all these acoustic raw demos....      i completed one studio track tonight.   and i love it...

"IF YOU LOVED ME" holiday single RELEASED!

"If You Loved Me" has been released as this year's holiday single and inclusion on the "Believe" collection.   Recorded during the new album sessions, this one is about missing a loved one most at Christmas time.   It can be heard on Soundclick and Soundcloud over there ---------------->

This song was almost saved for the new record and in a way can be considered as an early preview of the sound of that record.   Enjoy and happy holidays!

Studio Diary #2

10 original songs written and recorded on my guitar so far for this record.   i'm thankful more than ever for the creative outlet during this time in my life.    so many crazy changes going on.   so much uncertainty.   i'm sure that will reflect on this album.   "If You Loved Me" will not be included on this collection but rather on the holiday "Believe" collection as originally planned.

Studio Diary #1: Acoustic Live Demo Session

Over the past couple of months I have been working on songs for my next studio record.   I demoed 9 of them today on guitar, including a song called 'if you loved me' which was originally penned as this year's inclusion on the 'believe ep' but is being considered as the first single to the new record.   The setlist was as follows...

"MONSTER" RELEASED FROM "REMIXXIT MMXIV"

"Monster" is a new track i wrote for the "Remixxit MMXIV" project.   Originally written as a ballad it ended up pretty much being the complete opposite.  Was reading up about stress and anxiety being our greatest demons.   How they can confuse us, make things difficult, hurt, and even destroy us.    That idea manifested itself into this song.    It can be heard right over there.  --------->

REMIX PROJECT DIARY #2

the title for the new remix project has been officially announced as "REMIXXIT MMXIV"!    the final track list was completed today and it will be released 9.20.14 at midnight.   will include 16 remixes of previously released songs.  i will be doing the artwork tomorrow and i'm working on the last song which i believe will be released as a single from this project sometime in October.   the remixes for the next single released from "wild horses" will kick off this project.   that single is "Orange Soda" and will release 9.20 at midnight also.  that's all for now.

REMIX PROJECT DIARY #1

messing around with beats in the studio to empty out the extra remixed tracks i have in my vaults.   this project has been ongoing since the 'bad day' records and remix of DHB which sparked the idea of a remix collection.   the project has been pushed back several times and the latest plan is to have it complete by the end of september.   meanwhile latest single from 'wild horses' is 'enough' which can be heard right over there on both soundcloud and sound click.   ---->

"ENOUGH" is 3rd proper release from "WILD HORSES"

This chill out tune with dramatic strings is the latest release from the "Wild Horses" project.   Often times it's said that you can extricate an emotional demon through art.  I've witnessed this to be true on several occasions and than other times, no matter what you write, sing, yell, scream, or whatever...  it is never enough and the body, heart, and mind is just done when it is good and ready to be done.

Studio Diary #9: ALBUM TITLE ANNOUNCED!

working on the tracklist to the record this evening.   which songs to keep and which ones to not.  what i can say now is...

the new record will be officially called "WILD HORSES."    the release date is set for June 29th.   artwork and liners have not even been started so that could push this project back into July.

STUDIO DIARY #7

12 tracks have been laid down in the studio.   there is a pretty unifying sound to this record and i like it.  it's minimal with lots of glitchy drum beats.   i guess i'd compare it to maybe 'electricalifornia' but maybe with a bit deeper meaning or feeling.  

there's 3 tracks i'm not sure fit the record and need to be re-worked.   artwork needs to be completed but i do have an idea of what i want it to look like.    also...   well, there's no title yet.   i was thinking of just self titling it but that's always such a copout.    for now,  enjoy the lead single 'motorbike.'   you can hear it over there on soundcloud ----->

"MOTORBIKE" SURPRISE RELEASE KICKS OFF NEW ERA!!!!

Studio Diary #6: VOX

have ten vox straight passes complete for the record.    i have planned 11 tracks but the 11th i'm not sure is going to make the record.    the release which was supposed to happen soon is being pushed back as there is much work left on the project.    i'm going to TRY and take the weekend off for inspiration and a break.   lots of studio time this week!

11+ demos completed for this record i have entered the studio doing the first vocal runs for a few of the songs and playing around with sounds.   spent the weekend in haight-ashbury, san francisco exploring themes for the record and expanding the depth of some of the songs written so far....

up to 9 demos for the record.   i've yet to enter the studio proper and i doubt that i will for another week or so but the writing process has proven to be fun and interesting so far...

Studio Diary #3: Acoustic Sessions

7 demos in. it's pretty interesting to play these songs on my guitar. i have no idea what they'll turn into once i hit the studio.  i love the process of looking back and seeing how we went from here to wherever we end up.  i have some clear ideas of how i want the record to sound but as i actually write the songs, they kinda tell me what they'll become...

far too soon in the process to really tell.   plans were to be in the studio by now, but hopefully by the end of this month i'll be ready.   an early to mid june release of this project is a wild hope to be shooting for...

4 demos so far...   still very much in the writing process for this record.   been writing demos on my guitar which is fun and it'll be exciting to see what they turn into once i hit the studio.    now in mid-may, i anticipate a lead single dropping not until at least june.

Studio Diary #1

so... i have the new studio pretty much set up.   completed 2 veryyyyy rough demos for the new record over the weekend.   i have a pretty good idea of how i want the record to sound but i'm still very early on in the writing stages of this project so anything could happen...  

"ON AND ON" FINAL RELEASE FROM "FREE BEFORE I DIE" RECORD!

"On And On" has been released as the 6th (8th overall) and FINAL release from the "Free Before I Die" record.   Closing out the era is a beautiful ballad about holding on too long.   The realization that it is time to move on...    

A second cover song from "The S Street Sessions" was to be released but cancelled to focus out on closing this important era in my musical world.    I'm still head over heals for the "Free Before I Die" record.    It felt incomplete to just move on so quickly after "Florida."

I'm taking a break from my music for a little while.   I'm not sure how long I can stay away from it but it's time to focus on some other areas in my life...    While I'm gone, enjoy "On And On."

Studio Diary #3: ALBUM TITLE CONFIRMED

Well, recording is complete for this record.   I have 13 songs including the duet with Allison Grey which I'm pretty sure will be the first single from the record...  

I can confirm that the title will infact be "THE S STREET SESSIONS."     I kinda knew all along that this would be the title.   The album is to celebrate the time spent here on S Street.  

There's still some mixing on some of the songs and of course the artwork and tracklisting.   Excited about this covers collection.   I broke all my rules and even rap on one of the tracks!  

Studio Diary #2: S Street Sessions

i have 12 complete tracks for the project.   i'm working on 2 more songs.  not sure if they'll all make the final tracklisting...  hopefully recording will be done by this weekend.   also working on the artwork and i have a couple of different ideas for the album cover but nothing in concrete just yet....   my life is surrounded by chaos in a half packed house with bare clean painted walls...   half here, and half not...   i will miss this place.

Studio Diary #1: S Street Sessions

Well, we are moving out of midtown at the end of this month and to celebrate the time living here, I've decided to collect up all of the vocal covers I've been playing with since August 2013, recorded throughout the "Free Before I Die" and "Believe EP" recording seesions, all recorded here and release a second covers collection at the end of this month!  

The project has been cancelled a few times and was almost discarded.

Work on a new studio album was supposed to be underway but has been delayed because of the move and so to fill the time in between records, this little collection is coming!  

There are, I believe 7 complete tracks so far and tonight Alison Grey and I laid down some rough vocals for a super fun Glee like mashup.   It'll be the first time working with her since "Electricalifornia!"     So much going on but i'll try to update the sessions.  

"FLORIDA" HAS BEEN RELEASED!!

"Florida" has been chosen as the latest (and possibly) final release from the "Free Before I Die" project!   It is a slow tempo free thought flowing tune about a time in my life that was a bit messed up.    

The song came about late one night as I was going through past relationships and clearing out the air with a bunch of vodka (does that ever work?) I just started singing free style into the mic while playing my Yamaha PSR-6.  

All the cussing aside, the events that happened to me in the state of Florida were at the same time beautiful and so NOT beautiful.  

I remember Bayshore flooding from a hurricane that came close to Tampa Bay as we drove around in cars and tried to fall in love but in truth we were just buddying up and being crazy kids that should have seriously just stayed home...    The hurricanes were nothing to what we all were doing to each other.

my anti valentines day offering from the 'free before i die' record is the latest piano song to be out in the universe.    its all a true story =)  happy valentines day bitches.

"SAY WHATEVER" SINGLE RELEASED FROM 'FREE BEFORE I DIE"

Released on my birthday along with a remix (which you can hear over there --->  on my soundcloud page) this is one of the last songs that i wrote for the "Free Before I Die" record.   It is the album opener and it is a simple song about things that i enjoy that make me who i am, and you can say whatever....     special shout out to my dog included.

"Being Wrong" has been released as the 3rd proper (and 4th overall) single from "Free Before I Die."    It's a piano ballad about owning it.    Past relationships, and what you did wrong, and maybe even what you deserved, or maybe more so set into motion...      Welcome to 2014.    Own it.
