Studio Diary #4.

Some albums, you want to make.   You have a concept and an idea and you really try to make that into a reality.   And then there are some records that NEED to be made.   Songs that demand to exist and use the songwriter only as a tool through which to be born....

This new record  is the kind of record that NEEDED to be made!    I was exhausted after the release of "Electricalifornia."   It took me almost 6 months to come up with 11 songs for that record (12 if we include the bonus track #funnite).   In that time period, I wrote only a total of 15 songs.   I was writing songs to be consumed.   It had nothing to do with me.   But the sound, and feel and concept.   It was challenging and I do not regret doing it, but the process, like i said, left me exhausted and I was pretty convinced I needed a long long break from music.

But then, only 2 months after the release of "Electricalifornia" in early September, without warning I wrote and recorded with my phone the very beginnings of one of these songs and I was re-ignited!    The passion was back.   I lit candles and incense and wrote pen & paper style and within a month and a half I've written close to 30 songs for this record.   14 of those songs made the final cut.   One of them being the tom petty cover currently promo single,  "Free Falling."

It was obvious what I was writing about for this record from the beginning.   Songs about release.   About finding freedom, and being free.   Feeling better.   No direct theme but a for real desire to exercise some demons and clean out some closets...

The sound stretches from soft rock to blues to piano bar tunes.

I have a bit of last minute touches and of course the album art work and liners and the release date is scheduled for this coming Saturday November 9, 2013.

I am sure I've much more to say about the record and I'm sure I will in time.  I feel it's a very personal and very current snapshot of my life.   I'm more than excited to firstly say this product is mine and secondly to share it.

For now enjoy "Free Falling."  There is more to come.    A remix of it is in the soundcloud widget to the right ------------------------->
